Didn't I say, a year-and-a-half ago that the extreme left (woke) has the dangerous effect when pushing back ... of going too far right? It's a fight fire with fire mentality and James has solidified the discourse around it. If one wished to gauge the positive effects of the grievance affair hoaxes, and found them to be considerable, then I wish the same for the American Reformer Hoax. Bravo.
I have no qualms with such endeavors. However, I will share here my reaction to this, which was the same as my reaction to your case made on Triggernometry. You seem to know what you are talking about. I have never run into these people, but I accept they exist. With this story, it becomes clearer that they do exist. So what? Yes, in some sense, all weird, fringe factions matter and should have eyes kept on them. You have done that. Good. But the threat of Woke was there because they spent 50 years successfully executing a plot to take over the universities and human resource departments. I am sure the woke right draw some audience, but are they at all close to gaining any real power? I doubt it. Hence, I don't really care. Flat earthers really exist and I really don't care. If they are on the fringe where they should be, we shouldn't try to eradicate every aspect of wrongthink that we can find in the world. It only becomes a problem when they are moving in where they shouldn't be. I don't see that happening. If it does, we can all be grateful to Lindsay for heading them off. Until then... *big shrug*
The concerns about the New Right are legitimate. That said, after some consideration, I'm convinced that the use of "work right" is a poor choice of language. There are other more historically accurate terms to help us understand this far-right ideology.
Right-Wing Populist is one good descriptor which ties into their emphasis on the interests of the ordinary man vs the elites. This populist strain certain goes back to the French Revolution and I explore that connection to the Left in this recent post on my substack. There is certainly a mirror for this in the populist-Right but I think the connection goes back to Descartes who did influence Marx but also had a second strain of ideas that has influenced here the Right. We explored this connection back in September on our podcast.
The use of racial categories on the right, which seems to be the reason some folks are fixed on using "woke" is misleading. These racial categories predate the 20th century use of woke Left which is tried to Marxist ideology. The willingness of thee Right to trade in racial categories goes back farther to Kant, Hume, and Darwinian naturalism, and White segregationists who predate Marx.
The other influence on the far-Right is Machiavelli’s ideal of ruthless pragmatism outlined in The Prince. The connection of the modern right to these political ideas that predate Marx is overlooked in the woke-right language. We discussed this connection back in July on the raZe the roof podcast.
All that said, I think your analysis and concern over the New Right is legitimate, I just think using the "woke" language conflates the different philosophical roots between the Left and Right which are just as important as their similarities.
Thanks! Good work! You don't catch me up on who's who in this argument, but I get the drift. Woke is Victim Mentality, right? We Christians who are also American conservatives can check ourselves on that point. We do have an enemy, the Left, and the values that put us in that position are better than those of the Left. But we are not victims, because God has plans for us that transcend our notions of reclaiming the culture. If I can say, "We don't need to win that battle," then I'm not a victim. And we are not "phobes" of everything that we think is wrong. We get to love God and walk with Him through whatever comes next.
That's mean spirited. My dad always said ... if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Not a recipe for deep discourse for sure. But deep discourse on the internet is an oxy-moron anyway. What have you done to contribute to public sanity?
Collective thinking is collective thinking, regardless of who’s doing the talking.

Thanks. Stay connected. Blesssings.
There was a Communist Church, in London, before there was a Communist Manifesto.
I believe Marx and Engels tried the catechism appproach before settling on the manifesto one.

The odious Oppressor-Oppressed Dynamic marches on, and soon everybody wants to compete in the Victimhood Olympics.

Propaganda. They try to parasitic the right now. Meme them until they cry, then meme about them crying
They lost me at legislation. No Right winger made legislature unless it is to castrate the government.
