It's always a bait-and-switch with these people. "It is just a theory!" they say, portraying their work as neutral "theorizing" but that their actual goal is to promote ideological change in society.

"We only want to simply analyze or explain established social structures and norms." when the really mean to undermine them.

Critical theorists aren't theorists because a theorist would at best try to merely describe society in some meaningful way, but the former seek to actively disrupt. Critical theorists present their work as objective analysis, but their true intent is to advance particular ideological viewpoints through the guise of their theoretical frameworks.

Re: "just a theory." The fact that its applied conclusions are so often portrayed as unassailable moral truths, shows it's not being used as a "theory." It's used to produce ideological "truths" where empirical evidence is lacking.
