Everybody (including atheists) has a worldview, whether they realize it or not. Everyone has a way they look at the world. That can't be avoided. The question people should ask themselves is, does my worldview match reality?
I've begun to believe that strange and exotic ideological beliefs are not just a status signifier for upper classes (which they are) but are a luxury as well. Rob Henderson' concept of 'luxury beliefs' certainly applies, but I've almost begun to believe that ALL rigid ideologies are luxuries, even if the policies recommended happen to be useful or non-perverse.
The working class tends to gravitate towards policies that work, regardless of their complexion or origin. The upper classes seem enthralled by theory and abstraction. Consider frontal lobotomies and eugenics and 'towers in the park' urban design and command economic planning - all progressive ideas beloved of the rich and educated. Also, all badly wrong. History rhymes.
